Local Roundup: Warriors to host local NJB players Saturday
by TP staff
Three local youth basketball players will get to meet the Golden State Warriors on Saturday as the pro team prepares to face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Aaron Ocon and Daren Saadat, members of the Tracy National Junior Basketball Division 3 Hurricanes, and Jake Johnson, of the Tracy NJB Division 2 Suns, will high-five the Warriors players as they run onto the court.
The chance to meet the team was part of the incentive for Tracy NJB players to sell Warriors tickets as a benefit for the local basketball club, with the Warriors donating money back to the local league for each ticket players sold.
Johnson sold 76 tickets, and Ocon and Saadat each sold more than 40 tickets. The Tracy club has 220 players on 22 teams.
The teams’ trip to Oracle Arena will be a daylong event for players and their families. In the afternoon, NJB and the Warriors will host a tournament for area teams that includes players from 14 Northern California NJB chapters, including Tracy’s.
Both the Hurricanes, made up of third- and fourth-graders, and the Suns, with fifth- and sixth-grade players, will compete in the tournament on the Oracle Arena court.
Other Hurricanes players are Isaac Paz, Marquise Cunningham, Tristen Mathew, Ethan Casados, Christian Acevedo, Andrew York, Johnny Tran and Amaya Cheveres.
The Suns’ roster includes Vincent Llcuna, James Gibbons, To’a Heck, Tino Lopez, Jonathan Harvey, Seth Strope, Brooks Miller, Carlos Galindo and Josh Kovac.
